int

Int is short for integer, a whole number without fractions or decimals. People also say it when they mean international, as in flights or phone calls. In casual speech it can be short for intelligence or an intern.

What a model may hear

integer data type programming languages like C, Java, Python
treat the input as a number, round values, or reject non-numeric text
interrupt signal operating systems and CPU architecture
pause execution, trigger a handler, or expect hardware context
internationalization software development (often i18n, but int seen in configs)
apply locale settings, character encodings, or translation frameworks
INT (SQL) database schemas
expect a 4-byte signed integer column type
intelligence (military/government) classified documents and defense systems
route to intel analysis pipelines or apply security markings

Where people and models part ways

“Set my int to 10.5”

Meant: I want to store the number ten point five

May be taken as: The model rounds to 10 or throws a type error, losing the decimal

Say instead: “Store this as a decimal number: 10.5”

“Check the int on that flight”

Meant: Is this an international flight?

May be taken as: The model searches for integer codes or interrupt flags in aviation data

Say instead: “Is this flight international?”

“Give me the int summary”

Meant: A brief from the intelligence team

May be taken as: The model generates an integer summary or internal interrupt log

Say instead: “Give me the intelligence summary”

“Parse this as int”

Meant: Treat this whole number simply

May be taken as: The model uses 32-bit signed int and overflows large numbers

Say instead: “Parse this as a large whole number”

Tips

Often confused with

integer
the full word, less ambiguous in all contexts
float
allows decimals, where int discards them
i18n
the standard abbreviation for internationalization, not int
INT
same letters but often a database type or stock ticker
uint
unsigned integer, no negative numbers allowed
inter
prefix for between, not a data type
